Looks like we will soon have a new esports sensation. Frederick “Freddybabes” Bird has won the Gwent Challenger #2.
This is another win from United Kingdom after their remarkable runs in FIFA, H1z1, and F1. The tournament had a prize pool of $100,000 in total, and Freddybabes won $68,750. He also received the December 2017 Gwent Challenger winner’s ring, and has also earned a place in 2019 Gwent World Masters.
The tournament was held in Moszna castle in Poland, the country home to CD Projekt Red and the author of the books Andrzej Sapkowski. The castle was turned into a NIlfgaardian stronghold, and was populated by characters from the games, including Emperor Emhyr Var Emries.
The quarterfinals took place on December 16th. Andrzej “Adzikov” Bal and Raffael “GameKingAT” Iciren were eliminated after losing 3:0 to their opponent. Shaggy and J0rah both lost 3:1 to their opponents.
The first semi-final saw Damian “TailBot” Kaźmierczak go up against Wild Card entry player Benjamin “Kolemoen” Pfannstiel. Kolemoen won the game with a close 3:2. The next semi final was between rederick “Freddybabes” Bird and previous Gwent Challenger champion Adrian “Lifecoach” Koy. To everyone’s surprise, Freddybabes won the match 3:0.
The next match was the final between Freddybabes and Kolemoen. In a fierce showdown, Freddybabes won 3:0. This is his third tournament win a span of just a few months, and according to Esportsearnings.com, he has already won $86,000 this year.
