The freshly released Promise of Eminent Revival for Dota 2 received backlash from the community.
Given to Battle Pass owners with level 615 and above, the Promise of Eminent Revival features a selection of 5 immortal items ‘revived’ from previous iterations of the International Compendium.
‘Old’ is the new ‘New’
These immortal items are Kunkka’s ‘Leviathan Whale Blade’ and Lone Druid’s ‘Cauldron of Xahryx’ from the International 2013 compendium, Lion’s ‘Fin King’s Charm’ and Storm Spirit’s ‘The Lightning Orchid’ from the TI4 compendium and Leshrac’s ‘Tormented Staff’ from TI5.
According to Dota 2’s blog post, the treasure immediately grants all 5 immortal items upon opening with each of them featuring a basic style and an unlock-through-play upgraded touch. All 5 items will not be tradable nor purchasable in the marketplace.
Move on, meme on
Despite the exclusivity of the Promise of Eminent Revival, fans began to complain about their expectations regarding the treasure.
And knowing the traditions of the Dota 2 community, complaints will only end up to some quality memes.
Some fans cried over the lack of effort from Valve, saying that the “new takes” for the said items are only basic recolors similar to golden versions of immortal items.
Redditor Cpt_Metal commented that the green recolor doesn’t justify the remakes compared to the gold ones.
“Gold only looks more expensive, if these remakes were all gold there would have been less unjustified whining on reddit now since people would feel like they got higher value items.” He added.
Designed by who?
The green touch leaves Redditor Thors_Goat the impression that gaming brand Razer is behind the reskin concepts.
To add up to the green flare, redditor chimpan_z shares this interesting Razer themed animation concept for, uhm Razor.
Redditor SylviaLastname gave a harsher take on the meme game, like who mains Lone Druid by the way?
Calm your wallets!
Despite the backlash, some fans beg to differ. Redditor zivel crated a thread to appreciate the skill effects of the items, which looks great aside from the recolors.
What is your take on the Promise of Eminent Revival? Do you think it is worth spending for 615 levels?
