Valve has released a CS:GO free edition, which will be a bit different from the full version.
CS:GO has withstood the test of time. The game released over a decade ago and yet the game is still going strong. But the popularity and the player count have been declining a bit, thanks to Battle Royale games. To that end, Valve has released a CS:GO Free Edition on Steam.
The free edition will be available to all Steam users, but there is a catch. You will not be able to play online – the free edition will only allow offline gameplay against bots. Also, the free edition –– available on Linux, Windows and Mac, will enable you to spectate matches on GOTV. Whereas the full game will grant you access to “online content and features, including multiplayer gameplay, official matchmaking, in-game inventories, skill groups, XP, ranks, and other online features.”
This seems like Valve’s attempt at increasing the dwindling player base of CS:GO. They had previously released the Panorama UI for CS:GO and had also added the fan favorite MP5-SD. The MP5-SD had appeared in every Counter-Strike Game before Global Offensive and was a popular weapon due to its affordability, rate of fire availability on both teams (Counter terrorists and Terrorists) and low recoil.
In the latest update, Valve has made some improvements to the Panorama UI for CS:GO and some other changes. Here are the full patch notes:
Added better support for Panorama UI on low-end machines.
Added support for weapon stickers and character gloves on the character featured in the main menu.
Fixed a case where weapon finishes appeared overly dark.
Adjusted optimal movie resolution based on user’s CPU and GPU levels.
Fixed extra bright flashlight on characters when loading non-HDR community maps.
Darkened exposed metal on ejection port and bolt.
Added support for MP5-SD to workshop workbench.
Fixed texture blends in T-spawn area.
CS:GO has bid farewell to the Scaleform UI. “-legacyscaleformui” is no longer supported.
Updated the Settings menu to display the Steam Controller Configurator if a Steam Controller is detected.
Added a new recommended Steam Controller config to better support the Buy menu and Team Select menu.
Miscellaneous stability and security improvements.
