Eight teams survived the grueling New Challengers Stage of the FACEIT Major: London 2018.
New stories unfold in this year’s final Major, with new names coming out towards the limelight and veterans seeing the final days of their playing career.

Finishing at the lower end of the Boston Major prompted Astralis to do some tweaks. They never looked back since then as their revamp proved to be working well coming to London. Astralis claimed a 3-1 score in the Swiss groups to book their ticket to the New Legends stage and by the looks of it, they are ought to be the heavy favorites along with Faze Clan, Navi and mousesports who are waiting at the Legends.
There is nothing sweeter than a strong comeback, and that’s how Ninjas in Pyjamas showed in the Major as they swept the Swiss group stage 3-0 by to claim the top seed of the New Challenger Stage along with Team Liquid. Among NIP’s victims were Virtus.Pro, Tyloo and tournament favorites Astralis.
Meanwhile, Brazilian CS legend Epitácio “TACO” de Melo looks to be in full form as Team Liquid swept Optic Gaming, HellRaisers and Vega Squadron to qualify unblemished.
A historic win for Asia
For the first time in CS:GO history, an Asian Team qualified to the New Legends Stage. Tyloo pulled off a remarkable run after claiming one of the last three spots heading to the next stage.

The Chinese squad delivered a strong opener against Gambit before bowing to NIP and Optic Gaming consecutively, thus one loss away from elimination. But the first time Major attendees stood still and took down Renegades and sooner Team Spirit in the last round, etching history for Asian CS:GO.
This also means that we will be seeing them in next year’s Major which is the Intel Extreme Masters XIII – World Championship.
Legends going south
Team North surprisingly bowed out of the Major after losing 2-3 in the groups with their decider match going the way of Vega Squadron 2-0. This is despite the fact that North came off a fresh victory at DreamHack Masters Stockholm 2018 – the last LAN before this major.

Another legend going down is Virtus.Pro, who dropped all of their three games. Interestingly, remaining members of VP’s “Golden 5” Jarosław “pashaBiceps” Jarząbkowski and Paweł “byali” Bieliński opened up with their interests to leave the team for good prior to the Major. That along with complications between the rest of the team will really end up bad..
One of the last Legends to fall were Gambit. The Krakow Major champions never saw the same success they did last year as they bow out with a 1-3 record. Their only win came out of Space Soldiers, whom never tasted victory in this Major.
New Legends arise
Hellraisers, Complexity Gaming, Big Clan and Vega Squadron complete the winners of the New Challengers stage.
All in all, the Minors’ Champions did pretty well in the New Challenger’s stage with four out of the 8 minor winners making it to the New Legends. It is worth notable that these four teams came out evenly from each region, making FACEIT Major’s New Legends stage one of the more diverse ones yet.
The FACEIT Major: London 2018 New Legends stage will begin on September 12.
